The Season of the Giving
of Our Torah
As we enter yet another season of a festival I
would like to thank Lesli Koppleman Ross. I use the book, "Celebrate" along
with my Tenach and other Scriptural resources. This book is timeless and jam packed with
information, it also happens to be available in our Judaica store at the shul.
The Asarei Hadiberot, the Ten Sayings or as most
of the world knows them as the Ten Commandments were given to G-d's people freely to
completely release us of all bondage. Then why does the "Church" say Torah is
dead and we are not under the Law? Misinterpretation, wishful thinking ignorance?
You can choose, but for myself I receive the
Asarei Hadiberot with great appreciation. Without the Torah and its Ten Sayings we would
be a lawless people without guidelines, without direction, without ethics and morals... a
sinful people very much living hell on earth.
Now for the good stuff - Shavuot!
The second pilgrimage
feast started out as an agricultural celebration marking the transition between the barley
harvest and the start of the wheat ripening season. It was only later that it became known
as the Revelation at Sinai of the Law! This changed Israel from a liberated people to a
totally free people. Imagine being a spectator at this event. The Israelites became
witnesses to G-d's existence and His intimate involvement in their lives and in the entire
world. They were to embrace the authority of Torah in Jewish life, Halachah, as a
set of regulations for every generation, not to change them (Devarim 4:2, 13:1), but to
apply them to every aspect of their lives. It is the same for us today!
As believers we receive a double portion on Shavuot. The
agricultural festival had arrived and all the believers gathered together in one place
(Acts 2). A great wind filled that place and all were filled with the Ruach HaKodesh. So
here we are, stuck in our everyday lives, murmuring and complaining about whatever does
not please us. We must remember the miracles in our lives. HaShem gave us the Torah and
the Ruach HaKodesh and all He asked in return is that we love Him, be obedient, be
repentant, remain teachable, submit and respond to His leading. I think that we are not
worthy. But though Yeshua HaMashiach and the redemptive blood of the Lamb we can do it!
Hag Sameach!
