That is why it was necessary for them to go through a forty-year sanctification process in the wilderness. One of the pagan practices they took with them was the ‘elevated hand’ (Hamsa - Hand of Miriam, in reference to the sister of Moses and Aaron). This is a so-called lucky charm, many times seen with an eye in its centre. It is worn on a chain or displayed in picture form on a wall, and is considered as a talisman by Jewish people. Yet this seemingly innocent symbol is a carry forward from a pagan Mitzrayim deity. The free gift of this salvation/redemption from Mitzrayim was also extended to many other people from among the nations; yes, they were redeemed as well. They were comprised of people who were also enslaved by the Mitzrayim or who lived in Mitzrayim and feared HaShem. They too heeded His instructions and applied the blood of the Pesach (Passover) lamb to their doorposts. These people left with the bnei Yisrael and made up the mixed multitude described in Scripture. Shemot {12:37} The Bnei Yisrael journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, besides children. {12:38} A mixed multitude went up also with them, with flocks, herds, and even very much cattle. The same applied to us when we received our salvation/redemption from the slavery of sin. We did not deserve it and we certainly did nothing to merit it. Yet, when we feared HaShem, and heeded His call in our life, by applying the blood of the Pesach Lamb (Yeshua) to the doorpost of our hearts we entered into a honeymoon period. At lease that is what happened to me and to most other believers I have encountered. I had two solid years of relaxing in the presence of my Saviour before He started the sanctification process in my life. As with Yisrael, HaShem shielded me in my infancy as a believer, from the harsh reality of the persecution, rejection, ridicule, and character changes that would come. Many times in previous D’var Torahs I have made the statement that if you want to know how HaShem works in your life, study how He worked with the bnei Yisrael. This small portion of Parsha Beshalach is another example of that. YYYYYYYYYYYY |
