What caught my attention was the question Mr. Green posed at the end of his oration, “How does your dash look?” This got me thinking especially because, as believers in Yeshua HaMashiach, our “dash” is really important. If we are truly born again and know where we are going at the end of our journey then the “dash” in-between when we are born and when we die has extra significance. What we did, and who we touched will be very important; did we produce good fruit or was our fruit rotten? HOW DOES YOUR DASH LOOK Even while I was listening to Mr. Green’s presentation I was thinking of Scripture pertaining to all that I was hearing at this small Erev Shabbat service in a seniors residence, and this is what HaShem put on my heart: Mattityahu / Matthew 25:31-46 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, accompanied by all the angels, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates sheep from goats. 33 The `sheep' he will place at his right hand and the `goats' at his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you made me your guest, 36 I needed clothes and you provided them, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. ' 37 Then the people who have done what G-d wants will reply, `L-rd, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and make you our guest or needing clothes and provide them? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? ' 40 The King will say to them, `Yes! I tell you that whenever you did these things for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did them for me! ' 41 "Then he will also speak to those on his left, saying, `Get away from me, you who are cursed! Go off into the fire prepared for the Adversary and his angels! 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 a stranger and you did not welcome me, needing clothes and you did not give them to me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. ' 44 Then they too will reply, `L-rd, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, a stranger, needing clothes, sick or in prison, and not take care of you? ' 45 And he will answer them, `Yes! I tell you that whenever you refused to do it for the least important of these people, you refused to do it for me! ' 46 They will go off to eternal punishment, but those who have done what G-d wants will go to eternal life." We need to focus more on others in our walk with G-d while we are on this earth. We have just completed our latest cycle of Feasts as believers in Yeshua HaMashiach. The month of Elul and the High Holy Day season are all behind us now. As Rabbi Ya’acov so profoundly wrote in our last newsletter, The King Is In The Field, the month of Elul began a time of introspection and repentance. I don’t know about you, but I had to ask for forgiveness of others and of myself this holy day season. It was a bit rough, but we are now basking in the light of a new beginning, a new year and hopefully a higher level in our relationship with G-d. Mattityahu / Matthew 7:21-29:21 "Not everyone who says to me, `L-rd, L-rd! ' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, `L-rd, L-rd! Didn't we prophesy in your name? Didn't we expel demons in your name? Didn't we perform many miracles in your name? ' 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, `I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness! ' 24 "So, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on bedrock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers flooded, the winds blew and beat against that house, but it didn't collapse, because its foundation was on rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers flooded, the wind blew and beat against that house, and it collapsed -- and its collapse was horrendous!" 28 When Yeshua had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at the way he taught, 29 for he was not instructing them like their Torah-teachers, but as one who had authority himself. How would you like your “dash” to look? What would you like to be said of you at your funeral? We do not want our lives to glorify us, but we do want our live to be a glory to our G-d Most High. So, each day I prayed that the L-rd would take all my thoughts captive to the mind of Messiah. Then I thought that, if I am so concerned about my thoughts, I should also be concerned about my actions. So, the next time you give a bottle of water to a thirsty person living on the street; the next time you give a sandwich to a poor soul who had not eaten for a day; the next time you treat a stranger like an honoured guest; the next time you give out clothing, a blanket or a sleeping bag to a down-and-outer; the next time you visit someone in the hospital and pray for them; the next time you visit a prison to bring the Word to those who are in spiritual bondage; the next time you give the Besorah Tovah (good news / gospel) and tell someone that there is a saviour, and His name is Yeshua, and He will give them life everlasting; the next time and the next time and the time after that will be the time when you are doing it unto our L-rd. We are heading into yet another time in the Messianic Jewish life cycle. It is the celebration called “the Feast of Dedication.” The Feast of Chanukah (Dedication) begins on Erev Shabbat, December 11th. It is the Feast of Lights where the eight branch menorah is lit and placed in a window for all to see. Will you bring the light Yeshua has placed in you to your family, friends and coworkers? Will you represent Yeshua, the light of the world, well to the world? Will the “dash” on your gravestone read well? Will it speak well of all the things that you did for G-d? *If you would like to read the entire poem, “The Dash,” it can be found on the author’s, Linda Ellis’, website www.lindaslyrics.com.
